What we know is antidepressants raise the level of neurotransmitters in the brain. But, the brain uses those neurotransmitters for just about everything, so no one has any idea why this leads to a reduction in depression.

Scientists have spent decades trying to decipher why moths are drawn to light. Their first real theory was that light disrupted a moth’s internal navigation system. The second strongest theory was that male moths mistook the light for female moth pheromones. Neither has held up in testing.

Here is one science needs to get on ASAP. Why do we yawn, and why the hell is yawning so damn contagious? There are two, yet unproven, theories: Yawns chill the brain to improve intellectual performance or, it’s some form of communication from our ancient ancestors.

This interesting condition is when ordinary people develop incredible skills as the result of serious head trauma. The whole idea that the placebo effect “is all in our heads” has been silenced. With the realization that saline and morphine cause the same pain blocking neurons to fire, scientists have proven the placebo effect is neurobiological. Unfortunately, this only stumped scientists further.

Scientists have been able to observe magnetic fields for quite some time. That’s all fine and dandy, but they have no idea why magnetic fields work. What are the made of? Very few scientists have even been able to agree on a theory to explain why magnets work.
